The Civil Rights Movement-

For “Parent Day,” the students were given the choice of presenting a speech, making posters, creating protest signs, or performing skits to demonstrate their mastery of the content.  This use of differentiation has been extremely successful throughout my teaching career.

11th Grade Government & Economics -

During this 2-day immersive group activity, teams were assigned a specific economic system (Capitalist, Socialist, Communist), and instructed to follow a set of rules that accompanies each system.   The goal is to apply their knowledge of the three economic systems in a “real-world” setting.

11th Grade Government & Economics -

After being given “free rein,” the “Capitalist group” ended up creating a presentation that wowed the entire classroom. Through laughter, cooperation and ingenuity, each of the groups discovered a level of interest in economics that goes well beyond the typical for students of this age.   For example, in this photograph, the students present the “ROBO CON-3000,” as their proposed product to aid students in earning better grades.
